Problem/habit to interrupt: Relying on apps instead of gut feeling when going somewhere new

Question: How can we interject the habit of using the internet/applications when it comes to wayfinding?

Give participants an abstract line drawn on a piece of paper

They have to follow a path according to this line, their paths will be recorded

Will all participants go down the same path or will they differ between one another?

using strava, we extracted the routes taken.

Routes differed quite heavily, despite the exact same starting point.

purple and green were the same line, red and blue were the same line, all walks had the same starting point, but different walking directions depending on the line followed.

Notes from participants:

Dorsheila:

niet verdwaald want bekend in deze stad (didn’t feel lost because she knows this city well)

wist na kijken naar de route wel een beetje waar het zou eindigen (when looking at the line, kind of knew where it would end)

zag dingen die ze normaal niet zag (did note things she would not normally see)

Oliver:

Ik voelde me gestresst, ik had geen idee wat ik aan het doen was omdat ik niet kon afkijken. (i felt stressed, I had no idea what I was doing because I could not look at a cheatsheet (maps))
