The top of the staircase is more of an idle area. People leave their chairs there to sit during their breaks, or work on a group project
The staircase itself is mostly a walk-through area; people rarely stop on it, or sit on it – mostly because there’s other chairs to use?
On the stairs there’s an area marked out, intended to walk on, showing the edges of the stairs. I assume this is mostly done for safety, as the entire floor is orange, a certain depth is lost to the staircase. If it weren’t there, would people trip up more often, or would it become all-together inaccessable for people with bad eyesight?
I feel like if the space was utilized better, the stairs could become a seating area much like the ones near the cafetaria, but since it’s surrounded by emergency exits, it was probably not done.
There’s a second set of stairs going steeply upwards, it’s metal & visibly worn. It’s used often, too. I feel more often than the orange stairs themselves. It’s kind of a loop around the orange stairs — people go up in the main hall, and go down here for lunch, avoiding the few steps altogether.
During the open day this space was used extensively – it was a spot for a little market stall where people could buy art prints. There’s visible prints of tables being dragged around the space.
Behind the steep, steel staircase, there’s items being stored. Unsure if this is meant to be there, or was just put there by students with lack of organizational space. The items seem to be quite random, but not random enough for an art academy.
