I’ve also drawn inspiration and a lot of knowledge from the book ‘Landscape Logic’ by Steffen Nijhuis. I am still reading this book now, but so far it has brought me a lot of tools to translate the complexity of landscape through a systems-based approach The book, in essence, is a manifesto towards letting existing landscapes guide design and architectural intervention, and despite not uttering the words directly, completely aligns with the concept of Landscape Memory. He states: “Landscape is a palimpsest – a spatial narrative written, erased, and rewritten by natural and cultural processes.” This quote not only approaches the topic similarly to mine, it also directly emphasizes how landscapes show logic, and this logic can be used to “structure experience”, or designing interventions that make landscape memory experiential — something that can be felt through use and sensory engagement.
